Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC)
Clinical Coordinator for Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery
Washington, D.C.
Christine Jefferies is a Registered Nurse working as a Clinical Coordinator for Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery at Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC), in Washington, DC. After earning her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Virginia (UVA) in 2010, Christine earned subsequent certifications in Clinical Nurse Leadership, Pediatric Nursing, Pediatric Critical Care, and Operating Room Nursing, and completed a Pediatric Palliative Care Fellowship while working at CNMC. Prior to her career in nursing, Christine worked as an EMT in both urban and rural Emergency Department settings and volunteered for more than a decade in Fire & EMS services. Christine is passionate about optimizing clinical outcomes, improving the lived experiences of patients and families across the continuum of care, and facilitating healthcare providers in providing the safest, most effective care while maximizing their own well-being.
After attending a small UVA nursing meditation retreat in 2009 with Jonathan Bartels (founder of ThePause.me), Christine has cultivated mindfulness meditation and yoga practices in her daily life. She has attended retreats with leading mindfulness practitioners including Sharon Salzburg, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Tara Brach, and Thich Nhat Hanh, and completed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction training in 2014. Attending HPRCT and hearing “mindfulness” discussed in relation to HRO for the first time last year, Christine’s interest was piqued in exploring the connections between compassion, neuroscience, mindful leadership, human factors, high reliability organizing, and safety science, and she has angled her career and research interests in this new direction.
